Mali's National Environmental Protection Policy (PNPE) was adopted in 1998 by the National Assembly. It is a logical continuation, one of the strategies for implementing the Rio Conventions.
The PNPE constitutes an orientation framework for effective and sustainable environmental planning and management which should make it possible to deal with all the issues. Its implementation should make it possible to make a significant contribution to the fundamental questions concerning the fight against desertification, food security, the prevention and fight against pollution, and the fight against poverty, which constitute so many constraints to be lifted for ensure the sustainable socio-economic development of Mali.
