According to Article 26, the Parties to the Convention are required to draw up National Reports to monitor the implementation of the Convention on a periodic basis. Thus the First Reports were to be drawn up in 1997, the second in 2001 and the third in 2005.

Within the framework of the Cartagena Protocol on Biotechnological Risks, Mali has also compiled a national report.
